If you're running Fedora 38 on AMD Zen2 or openSUSE Tumbleweed on AMD Zen3 and want highly-optimised kernels from the Arch linux-amd-znver* projects, I will probably keep these .configs more-or-less in line with kernel.org current and the upstream configs, plus the required config changes to make the kernels work on Fedora and openSUSE Tumbleweed

Today I wrote my very first #AUR package for #archlinux - and I only did it out of necessity (as this is a pip package you'd want to install system-wide, which Arch does not allow). But actually this is much easier than I would have expected (at least for Python packages); so I guess there…

about to cry
i spent a lot of time on that thing and now the whole thing is gone
why do i assume how certain commands work without actually checking it?

It took a while, but I finally evaluated the survey. Thanks to everyone! 👍 ❤️
I was surprised by the high number of BSD users, significantly more than Win or Mac! Fantastic!
And with Linux, Debian clearly dominates ahead of Fedora, Arch and then Mint. The big surprise is Slackware! It's great that so many people still use it!

I'm now convinced all the memes are absolute truth.
Currently have my MST3K playlist running on VLC. The security cams on the other screen. So progress has been made.
My head still hurts.

Just leaving this here in case it helps anyone else.
Arch Linux made the KDE Plasma 6 update available last night. After applying it and rebooting, my laptop just gave me a black screen with a mouse cursor after booting into graphical mode.
After much cursing and attempting to lookup technical websites on my phone (yuk. huge yuk) I eventually solved it by uninstalling sddm (the graphical login manager), at which point I could login to a shell prompt and run startplasma-wayl…

Giving `hyprland` a try on the laptop, and so far it's been pretty nice. That plus Arch is working out, and everything has worked out of the box on the Framework. #ArchLinux #hyprland

Let's say you use a piece of software.
It's released using SemVer (e.g. 1.x.x breaking change, x.1.x new features, x.x.1 "patch" for a bug/security fix).
Assume the software is available for various platforms & architectures.
Take this scenario: a patch is needed only for a specific arch. How would you feel about a release at a version for that arch only?
Example:
2.1.0 for arm and intel
...later...
2.1.1 for intel only

Here's a Flatpak story: The other day, my best friend told me that he had switched to Linux! Arch Linux with KDE Plasma, a noble choice in my opinion. He's a smart guy, but he was having some issues that he couldn't figure out: Firefox' maximise and minimise buttons were missing, drag and drop from archives wasn't working, his selected theme wasn't applied everywhere, and many other small issues I can't remember now.
I tried reproducing his issues on my mach…

To help decompress from the Arch install "failure" of not being able to fix Grub to allow a dual boot, I've finally started Rachet & Clank: Rift Apart. It's real fun. It's real funny. - vi/emacs key binds everywhere
- Don't talk about Arch anymore
- Too busy remember how to compile Gentoo

Hello from a today old install of Garuda, as well as a proper dual boot PC (tho atm I have to use the boot menu from BIOS) that has straight Arch on Sata SSD 2. Had to edit my boot priority in BIOS to get this SSD to the front of the line. Been testing stuff and my audio is still not great, sadly. I mean it works, just.. not in ways that make sense to me. I dunno, maybe it's an MSI thing, or Garuda? At any rate, already mostly back up to speed, finish off tomorrow.

I believe I have found one of the more convoluted ways to "work around" a Linux sound arch issue, assuming it works. Trying to play Helldivers 2 with a headset and controller. Well they both use dongles. All my input devices do, actually, PC is in another "room" in this RV. Turns out the headset and controller are on the same freq, or real close, as they interfere with each other. To compound things, Bluetooth sound is harder on Linux than I realized. 1/?

I've been trying a few Linux distributions (openSUSE Tumbleweed, Fedora, Debian, Mint) and I noticed how freaking difficult it still is to install Wine and DXVK.
Come on! It's been how long? Most Windows refugees will want to install Wine. It should be as simple as:
1. install wine package
2. double click .exe file
No wonder people love Arch so much.
